“There is no point in using the word ‘impossible’ to describe something that has clearly happened.” Douglas Adams

Yesterday evening, Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized American citizen originally from Senegal, began shooting (pistol) from his vehicle into Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in Austin, Texas. He then parked, exited his vehicle, and began shooting random people on the street with a rifle (appearing to be AR-style). Austin patrol officers were on scene in under a minute and immediately dispatched the terrorist to Hades. But, not before he left two dead and 14 wounded. As we see, a minute is a small eternity in a gunfight.

Diange was wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the words “Property of Allah”, had an Iranian flag tucked under his arm, and there was a copy of the Quran found in his car. That being said, I’m sure there are leftist pundits on news programs today suggesting it is too soon to tell what his motivation was. Chances are a completely slipshod investigation regarding his intent will eventually produce a report that none of us will see until somewhere around the year 2030, if it’s not sealed by a court.

This terror attack occurred a little over 24 hours after the commencement of Operation Epic Fury, and just about eight hours after I posted my encouragement to all of us to avoid public gatherings and to carry our guns at all times.

I know what many are thinking: How were there no armed citizens present? For the love of The Alamo, it’s Texas!

Yeah, it’s Texas, but it’s Austin, TX. And it occurred in the bar/club district where college students and tourists congregate. It also happened at 2am. People like us are generally not in such locations, especially at that time of the morning.

This all boils down to what I have been preaching like a broken record for decades. There are not enough good Americans carrying guns, and when it comes to rugged individualism and the American fighting spirit, the majority of the citizenry are dishrags. They are far more interested in recreational drinking, sporting events, and digesting digital pablum than they are self-control, self-improvement, self-defense, or sacrifice for their posterity. And that includes many on the political right. They live in denial, and then fill their lives with distractions, or drink and medicate it away.

Constitutional carry does nothing if people are unwilling to practice it seriously and daily. And there will continue to be target rich environments so long as the majority insist on going to stupid places to do stupid things with stupid people.

Last night was a wake-up alarm for the nation. My guess is that most will either sleep through it or hit the snooze. “It can’t happen here”, “what are the odds”, and “new show on Netflix” will continue to be the foundations of mass denial.

As for me, I left the house this morning wearing two pistols, two reloads, and toting my rifle in a stealth bag. There’s also a kit in my vehicle outfitted with enough supplies to stop bleeding on 20 casualties. Too much? …I sure hope so. But we’re either serious, or we’re not.

I’ve made my choice.

Your turn.
