“The road to Perdition is paved with intent.” – Sharpe
Earlier this year we had the honor of instructing handgun to an active member of the US Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force. I’m of the strong opinion that the US Marshals are one of the few federal agencies that has not been compromised and corrupted to the core. The Marshals Service is actively pursuing the worst violent felons and human traffickers, and doing so as effectively as possible under the current climate of FBI partisanship and “deep state” meddling.
US Marshals hold a spot near and dear to us, and they are always welcome on our range!
The US Marshals were created by the FIRST Congress through the passage of the Judiciary Act of 1789 – their service beginning under George Washington. Marshals were responsible for fugitive apprehension and all the aspects of running the federal court system, as well as administering the national census (until 1870.) During the cold war they were enlisted to handle “prisoner” [read:SPY] exchanges with the Soviet Union.
They have a long and honorable history. I’ve met numerous Marshals over the years and I am ALWAYS impressed.
Monday, In North Carolina, 3 US Marshals and a local Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD offer were ambushed and murdered. This occured during a warrant service by the hands of a wanted fugitive, Terry Clark Hughes Jr. 4 other officers were also wounded, and a 5th suffered a broken foot.
39-year-old Hughes had a long, and felony-filled, rap sheet going back 20-years. He was arrested for multiple drug possessions, high speed pursuits, felon in possession of a weapon (x2), breaking and entering, aggravated assault, and failures to appear. He’d also served two stints in prison.
Many of his drug charges (and others) were dismissed, not due to evidence or strength of the cases, but because local prosecutors de-prioritized the crimes. It’s the same thing we’re seeing nationally anywhere Soros has spent money on elections. In the blue zones of America, catch and release has become common place with violent criminals, and they are learning quickly that crime does indeed pay!
At the time of the attack, the Joint Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve Hughes on warrants from THREE separate counties. Hughes apparently took exception to the idea and decided it was better leave widows and fatherless children as his legacy. He thus opened fire, eventually dying in the gunfight.
The same bed wetting, clueless leftist presently occupying college campuses will no doubt make excuses for him when asked. They’ll explain, ad nauseam, that Hughes was just a misunderstood victim of systemic racism and how his circumstances left him with no other option than to place his sights on responsible fathers and press the trigger. He just had no other choice!
Sure – He had no choice but to do drugs, commit crime, miss court, and murder 4 officers. And when he took police on high-speed chases, the car’s throttle was just stuck. That poor, poor man.
The criminal is never responsible for their own behavior!
The only positive is that the demon died of lead poisoning. Now the rest of us won’t have to pay to feed and house him. …and the children of the victims won’t spend the rest of their lives attending parole hearings.
The Deceased:
Joshua Eyer, CMPD, wife Ashley and a 3-year-old son.
Alden Elliott, USMS, wife and one child.
Sam Poloche, USMS, wife and two children.
Thomas Weeks, USMS, wife and four children.
In 2023, the number of officers shot in the line of duty was up +50 from the previous year. 2024 is looking no better. As of April 30, 136 officers have been shot in the line of duty, with 20 deaths. We’re ahead by 1% from this time last year.
And, by-the-way, 34 of the officers this year were shot in 26 separate ambush attacks.
“With 100 homicides a year, I do not have time to carry those (drug) cases for two-and-a-half years and I think most people would agree on that,”- District Attorney Spencer Merriweather
Perhaps now DA Merriweather wishes he’d prosecuted Huges. Then, again, there’s 4 murders he won’t have to worry about logging hours on this year.
