Every now-and-then comments need to be made about a subject, but not so much that it requires multiple paragraphs to do so. With this installment, I’ll briefly touch on a few different items.
1. A local shooting range brought the below find to my attention.
The picture is of a 9mm handgun bullet that was found in a tree that had fallen during a storm which was being recovered for firewood. The tree happened to have been growing right behind their berm. Obviously, this was an errant round that was not captured by the backstop, which could have easily carried on to a structure or bystander had the tree not intervened!

2. This week the U.S. Northern District Court ruled unconstitutional the portion of the National Firearms Act [NFA] which regulates silencers, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, and AOW’s [“Any Other Weapons”].
Important to note, this was NOT ruled on Second Amendment grounds.
With the removal of the $200 transfer tax on such items (which passed in the Big Beautiful Bill), there is no longer any justification for the registry that accompanied it. The ruling is based on the tax collection now being absent – it is not a ruling saying congress can’t regulate and tax such items because it is a violation of Article II.
The ruling is being appealed to the 5th Circuit, so, in the interim, we all still have to submit the same forms and fingerprints for such items.
The case was “sponsored” by Gun Owners of America [GOA].
GOA and The Second Amendment Foundation are two organizations I highly recommend all gun owners join, as they have accomplished 20x the legal progress the NRA has in the fight of our gun rights over the last four decades. I’m a life member of both.

4. John Farnam will be teaching his Basic/Intermediate Handgun class in Lebanon, IN [30-min North of Indianapolis off of Interstate 65], August 22/23. The course is being offered at a discounted rate from his normal tuition, and there are a few spaces in the class still available. For those interested, John is now 82 years old (and still hard to keep up with), but his retirement is looming. The time to train with him is now!
