‘A guy came past my right shoulder with a big knife and just started plunging it into the policeman. I have never seen anything like that. I just can’t believe what I just saw.’ – Eyewitness to London attack, Rick Longley
Tuesday, March 21, 2017, a lone Islamic jihadist drove a car into the pedestrian lane of Westminster Bridge in London, directly in front of Big Ben. After murdering 3 people and injuring up to 40 others, he exited the vehicle and proceeded to the entryway of the Parliamentary complex where he stabbed to death an unarmed police officer, Keith Palmer. The attacker was eventually shot by a plain clothes armed officer.
This event is full of lessons
It begins with a lone attacker mimicking the basic outline of the 2016 Ohio State and Nice, France, vehicle attacks, a blueprint of which was outlined in the Al-Qaeda publication Inspire Magazine last year.
Simplistic in nature – a single true believer, a vehicle, a crowd of potential victims, and a kitchen knife. Things that are impossible to regulate in any manner that would prevent such attack. Lone wolves can plan and provide for their own logistics – no need for technical expertise, bomb makers, or co-conspirators. Maximum effect with little investment. Exposure to infiltrators or snitches is minor, pre-event defense is all but impossible.
In this case, the location was paramount. The murderer chose a bridge with a pedestrian lane. Once he began his carnage, there was no escape. No doors to dodge into – no short fences, hills, or trees to use as cover – only concrete and pavement. He ran people down at his leisure. The bridge was also directly in front of the Parliament complex, making the statement: “we can attack you anywhere, even at your seat of government.”
Once he did as much damage as possible with the vehicle, he exited and made his way on foot to the entryway of the complex, where he went to work stabbing to death the unarmed police officer, and was finally put down like the rabid dog he was by a rare (in the UK) good guy with a gun, who happened to be a member of Parliament’s personal guard.
Our stance has always been: Unarmed security is not security. But, I don’t expect the winds to shift anytime soon in the UK; they seem quite content in their impotence.
For those of us paying attention this is nothing new, and we understand it’s not going away. Liberal/Progressives in Europe, as well as the US, are doing everything they can to destroy Western Civilization by introducing massive amounts of “refugees” that have no intention of assimilating into modern cultures. (And, as in this case, we see the natural born second generation being more militant than the parents.)
As citizens, our recourse is limited. We can vote for patriots, crossing our fingers that those in power will come to their senses and stop enabling our demise. However, the most personally proactive course to take it is to walk this Earth armed and lethally dangerous to all violent felons hell-bent on murder.
In order for life to go on, the gun must go on first. That lesson was demonstrated in spades Tuesday – a lesson British authorities will continue to ignore. However, thanks to Article II, we, in America, still have a fighting chance!
‘A free man must not be told how to think, either by government or by social activists. He may certainly be shown the right way, but he must not accept being forced into it.’ – Col. Jeff Cooper
